Start with the manuscript
Every distribution journey begins with the book itself. A work in progress, a completed manuscript, and a published title each need a different next step. Begin by identifying your current stage and the work that remains.
A readiness discussion can identify questions about editorial work, cover design, formatting, or production. Specific work and responsibilities should be agreed before a project begins.
Bring the details together
- A concise synopsis and description of your intended reader.
- Your manuscript stage and any editing or design already completed.
- The formats you want to offer: paperback, hardcover, or eBook.
- Existing ISBNs, publication details, and listings, where available.
- Your goals, timing preferences, and questions about the next steps.
Know what retailer-ready means
Retailers and distribution platforms need consistent, accurate information. Your title, contributor names, description, categories, pricing, and edition details should work together.
Print and digital editions also have different file requirements. Preparing a clear inventory of the materials you have helps avoid gaps later.
